On the 6th of October in 1990, the first broadcast of the talk show 'Sonja op Zaterdag' aired on national television. On the 25th of January in 2005 the last recording of 'Het Lagerhuis' in the Rode Hoed was a fact. Two monumental TV shows to be proud of. Nowadays the TV show 'De Nieuwe Wereld' is recorded in the church hall.
With the debates the Rode Hoed organizes it is a critical follower and a driving force of the public and political discussion. The Rode Hoed strives for exploratory and connective debates in which contradictions are overcome and new insights are discovered. Imaging debates about the food chain, biomass, the future of social security and the causes and solutions of the financial crisis.
In the last twenty-five years there have been a lot of different music artists playing in the Rode Hoed. Norah Jones, Trijntje Oosterhuis, Jacqueline Govaert, Anouk are just a few names who played or recorded a music video in the church hall.
The H.J. Schoo symposia is named after Hendrik Jan Schoo, who passed away in 2007. He was the former editor of Elsevier, deputy editor of De Volkskrant and publisher of Vrij Nederland and Opzij.
The Abel Herzberg symposia exists as long as the Rode Hoed itself. In co-operation with newspaper Trouw the Rode Hoed invites prominent figures to speak in memory of the lawyer, attorney, theatre- and writer and essayist Abel Herzberg (Amsterdam 1893 - 1989).
